THE THINGS YOU TAKE FOR GRANTED…
Why is it always that the things that you take for granted end up being the ones you miss the most when they disappear?
In a recent post for @grubstreet, Julia Gomez Kramer details exactly that in a great piece entitled “The Random Conversations We Can’t Have Right Now.”
It’s all about the social necessity of and sense of community we all derive from cafes, restaurants, bars and old favourite hotspots and hangouts we can no longer frequent for the time being. Those little glances. The animated breakups overheard. The renewal of a vital social contract — and contact.
On this @bell_letstalk day, we wanted to acknowledge how critical those personal — even if fleeting — conversations and connections have been for all of us, and how much they are missed right now, and have been throughout this pandemic.
“Fleeting conversations with strangers could be a nuisance (depending on the stranger, usually), but they could also be revelatory little moments of insight into the larger world,” writes Kramer. “And a necessary way to gain some much-needed perspective on any number of situations. It was almost like accidental exposure to culture, and it was easy to take for granted because it was everywhere, all the time.”
Can’t wait to see all of you out there again — hopefully soon.
