BEHIND OUR NEW ‘BEHIND THE PLEXI’ FUNDRAISER
This from local restaurateur Brad Roark on the mission behind our new industry support initiative called ‘Behind the Plexi’.
A collaboration between Breaking Bread and Roark, Behind the Plexi is a raw photo essay that features a behind-the-scenes glimpse into 33 beloved Vancouver restaurants and their staff during the pandemic and offers a series of limited-edition prints available for purchase until Monday, May 31 via breakingbreadnow.com/behind-the-plexi.
All proceeds from each print will be dedicated to the creation of two new scholarships for restaurant workers who have experienced employment setbacks due to COVID-19 — one via the @bchospitalityfoundation and the other to the @chineserestaurantawards scholarship at Vancouver Community College. The Chinese Restaurant Awards will also contribute $10 for every print sold from the collection of photos taken at Chinese and Taiwanese restaurants.
“We are all trying to save our businesses and sustain the culture of owner-operated restaurants,” says Roark. “It’s this culture that we continue to cultivate that brings a sense of togetherness and vibrancy to our communities and one that we are proud to showcase and support at a time when we all need it the most.”

WE’VE LAUNCHED A NEW INDUSTRY FUNDRAISER!
📣BIG NEWS!📣
Today, we’re proud to launch a new industry support initiative called ‘Behind the Plexi’.
A collaboration between Breaking Bread and local restaurateur Brad Roark (@nookrestaurant & @oddfishrestaurant), this raw photo essay features a behind-the-scenes glimpse into 33 beloved local restaurants during the pandemic such as @askforluigi, @kulakitchen, @comotaperia, @stlawrencerestaurant and more by offering a series of limited-edition prints available for purchase until Monday, May 31 via breakingbreadnow.com/behind-the-plexi.
Four acclaimed Vancouver-based photographers graciously donated their artistic eyes and time for the Behind the Plexi project, including: Wade Comer (@wadecomerphoto), Miranda Hudson (@hudsonny), William Luk (@mayowill) and Luis Valdizon (@whentheyfindus).
Stay tuned over the next week, when we give you a look at our four shutterbugs whose work captures this very essence of this period of time — a time of determination and resolve in which we need to stick together, support one another and keep going until we can come out on the other side.
