HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR!

HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR TO ONE AND ALL!

Best wishes for this occasion from all of us at Breaking Bread — we sincerely hope that the Year of the Ox brings you and your loved ones near and far health, happiness and prosperity.

In a recent article for @montecristo_mag, the great Vancouver wordsmith @lee.f.man talks about the importance of the occasion, how COVID restrictions have put a damper on Chinese New Year celebrations this year and details how local Cantonese chefs and restaurants are pivoting to feature a traditional pun choi dish for takeout as well as dine-in.

“As with Christmas and Diwali, Chinese New Year is a vital affirmation fo the bonds of family and community,” he writes. “There is perhaps no single meal more important to the Chinese calendar than the Lunar New year’s Eve dinner … This year, Chinese New years gatherings may be smaller, but the meals will still be deliciously meaningful.”
