The Vancouver hospitality scene is mourning the loss of a true legend with the recent passing of Dale Styner, owner of @bartocador.

As a way of honouring his inimitable spirit, joie de vivre and legacy that will not soon be forgotten, a number of local bars and restaurant around the city have banded together to shake up their own versions of the ‘El Papá Daiquiri’ — a tribute to Daiquiri aficionado Dale and a way of raising funds to benefit the future education of his kids.

A hearty ‘hail-fellas-well-met’ to the Gooseneck Hospitality gang, who recently opened the doors on @ohcarolinacafe — a new corner-grocery-store-café in Vancouver’s Mount Pleasant neighbourhood at 580 East 12th Ave.

A throwback to a time gone by and those stores on the corner that become a second home and a gathering place where friends, families and neighbours meet for coffee, breakfast and lunch, Oh Carolina features a selection of local and international groceries, fresh daily farm produce, high-quality meats, frozen food, dry goods and more.

The kitchen offers a standout lineup of handhelds like Smoked Sockeye or Avocado Toast for breakfast and Pastrami, Calabrian, Artichoke and Grilled Cheese Sandwiches and made-to-order salads and pasta dishes for lunch, while the café serves a range of espresso-based beverages, tea and cold drinks and pastries to tempt the sweet tooth of its guests.
